Matt Ownby

Music Program Coordinator 

Matt Ownby received the Bachelor of Music degree in percussion performance from Western Michigan University, the Master of Music degree in percussion performance from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, teaching certification endorsement in instrumental music education from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is currently finishing the Doctor of Musical Arts in percussion performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Mr. Ownby’s awards and honors include 1994 MTNA Collegiate Recital Competition National Finalist in Washington D.C., 1993 DCI Solo Multi-Percussion World Champion, 1992 DCI Yamaha High Percussion Award, and induction into the Collegiate National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Recent highlights include guest artist performances on solo marimba in Mexico City and the publication of four works for marimba with percussion ensemble by the Dutch Music Partners in Amsterdam.

His performance credits include the Las Vegas Philharmonic Orchestra, the Las Vegas Pops Orchestra, the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Las Vegas Percussion Quartet, The Henderson Civic Symphony Orchestra, Battle Creek Symphony, and The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as The Four Tops, The Temptations, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, and Elton John. Mr. Ownby is an endorsed artist for Sabian Ltd., and Innovative Percussion.
